I think a smaller group would have made for a much better time. We found a welcome oasis here during the long drive home. Beach, splash park, ball fields, nature trails, clean bathrooms, covered picnic areas that are huge, there are a massive amount of POKE STOPS and POKE GYMS and of course the boat ramp. End thoughts.. if you are passing through the area, if you have young kids, or maybe grandkids, it might be worth the visit. Great for day date or for family. McWane Science Center aims to change peoples minds through science and wonder. we drove up today from the Columbus Ga Area.. about 2 hrs. But I would have expected staff to clean the sites, too. The multilevel sculpture garden features contemporary works. Visit on 1/29/22 was EXCEPTIONAL! They were not "open", but they allowed us to look around. A center for history and heritage, Vulcan Park & Museum is a good place for a fun and learning-filled family outing. Situated in downtown Birmingham, the McWane Science Center is a state-of-the-art science museum that was established in 1998. I consider Birminghams Civil Rights Institute to be the cornerstone experience of any family trip to the city. Lying along one side of Kelly Ingram Park, its interpretive exhibits depict the struggles of the movement in the fifties and sixties. No one cleaned up our site from the previous camper (whenever it may have been). Thank you for an awesome time! Just know that there is a cashless system in place ( but you can load a card at kiosks throughout the park as well as the entrance) I was sad to find there were hardly any "shops" open along main street as well as our favorite "old-timey"picture store. But the scenery, the drinks, the atmosphere, all of it, makes this one of the most fantastic places to visit in this area. The group was a little big in our opinion but the guide did well managing it. It had everything you could need to fix anything with your bike. Great family or couples retreat for a weekend. The employee's are very helpful. The room and bed were fine, as was housekeeping. The other issue was the valet parking attendant on my leaving who took my tip, gave me the car key and walked away leaving me to struggle with loading the baggage in the trunk. Lights set up at the laundry, showers, and restrooms makes sense, but beyond that, we came to camp and experience nature, not city street lights. Venture inside the museum to find the comprehensive history of Birmingham and a local goods store, The Anvil, which sells gorgeous memorabilia and locally made souvenirs. The campgrounds have full hookup and they also have some with water and power only. It was exceptionally peaceful and quiet (bonus points! The area is beautiful and peaceful; so well kept. I would have given less stars only because of all the COVID changes but that is no fault of the park. It wasnt a very long stop as it is a short walk but even for the 30 minute drive it was worth seeing at least once! You can go right up to the peaville waterfall. This water park has tons of attractions including a wave pool and a variety of water slides. It was practically empty.
